Erase the signs of sun damage and other skin imperfections with an IPL photofacial

A lot of us value our time in the sun, especially during the summer months. But soaking up those golden rays can often have some unwelcome consequences for your skin. Have you been noticing some dark sunspots on your face or other imperfections that no cream will resolve? If so, it may be time to start thinking about an IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photofacial. This cutting-edge, laser technology offers a non-invasive solution for dark spots, freckles, spider veins, and other common conditions with virtually zero downtime.

How does an IPL photofacial work?
The IPL photofacial uses laser light treatment to target problem spots in the skin by utilizing pulsed light to draw out pigment-producing cells, eventually evening out skin tone and creating a more uniform complexion. The light energy pulls the discolored spots to the surface, where they eventually flake off to reveal the healthier, younger-looking, more radiant skin underneath. Treatment can also be performed on the neck, chest, shoulders, arms, and legs – virtually anywhere on the body except the eyelids and the area directly around the eyes.

Am I a candidate for the IPL photofacial?
An IPL photofacial is best suited for people with lighter complexions who want to get rid of spots or visible spider veins. People with tanned or darker complexions may not be the best candidates because the laser affects pigment and could discolor darker tones.

How is the procedure performed?
The procedure begins with a thorough cleansing of the treatment area. A cool gel is then applied to enhance the impact of the light pulses. The laser is placed on the treatment area and slowly moved in a pattern as the light pulses are absorbed into the skin. During treatment, slight discomfort may be experienced, but most people tolerate it without any trouble. Your provider may go over an area several times, depending on the level of damage being treated. The treatment takes about 45 minutes on average. Several treatments about four weeks apart may be needed for optimum results.

What kind of results can I expect from an IPL photofacial?
Best results appear over time as the hyper-pigmented skin works its way to the surface and eventually flakes off. Full results usually manifest about three months after the last treatment. Following the procedure, proper sun protection and a regular skin care regimen are key to maintaining results. Typically, the results of an IPL photofacial will last for about six months to a year, depending on the individual patient and their lifestyle. Most providers recommend additional treatments every six to 12 months to maintain and prolong the results.
