5 Ways to Enjoy Glowing Skin for Summer

Finally, the sun is out and summer is here! But with the humidity and warmer weather, our skin needs extra care and pampering. Here are five essentials for taking care of your skin during the summer.

(1) Sunscreen, Sunscreen, and Lots of Sunscreen
SPF is going to be your BFF this season. Applying an SPF is a must not only during the summer but all year round. The simple act of wearing sunscreen protects your skin from sun exposure, prevents wrinkles, and, most importantly, reduces the risk of skin cancer. Many moisturizers and cosmetics also contain SPF, but those applications alone are not enough if you’re going to be spending ample time outside. Regularly using an SPF of at least 30 is recommended, especially on the face. And don’t forget to reapply every couple of hours when outside.

(2) Exfoliate
Exfoliating is the best way to maintain your skin’s natural glow by removing dead skin cells to    prevent dullness and dryness. Skipping this step can leave your skin with either a dry, dull, or flaky appearance. Exfoliating also helps prevent pores from clogging due to the humidity and sunscreen residue. This step can be done 2 to 3 times per week, depending on your skin type.

(3) Moisturize
Yes, it is essential to moisturize even in summer. Because of the warmer weather, many skin types tend to be prone to breakouts. There are a variety of moisturizers on the market that work well for varying skin types. For example, if you have oily skin, be sure to use an oil-free, lightweight, or oil-absorbing moisturizer. On the other hand, a hydrating moisturizer is key for dry skin types.

(4) Face Mist
Use a face mist spray to moisturize and freshen your skin when you’re on the go. The mist comes in portable tin can or spray bottle that you can easily put in your purse or pocket. You can use it whenever and wherever you feel the need for a ‘retouch.’ Face mists are a convenient way to stay fresh all day!

(5) Water (yes, just plain old H2O)
Staying hydrated throughout the day is essential during the summer. Drinking water is not only vital for our overall health, but it is also a necessary component for healthy skin. We sweat more during these steamy summer days, so your skin can quickly become dehydrated and sensitive. Sweating can also cause our skin to be oily and patchy. Drinking enough water each day will significantly benefit your skin and ward off these unwanted effects.

These are just a few basics of a helpful summer skin routine. You can always go the extra mile for skin pampering, such as getting microdermabrasion treatments, facials, or laser hair removal for a bikini-ready body, and much more! It’s never too late to start your healthy skin regimen. Remember, we all have different skin types and needs, so it is important to consult with a professional and not just self-diagnose. Consider having a routine visit with your dermatologist or aesthetician for proper analysis and get the answers to any questions you may have about the best skin routine for you.
