#WhatIsWednesday: What is an IPL Photofacial?

What is an IPL Photofacial?

An IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacial is a laser light treatment that targets pigment issues in the skin. The pigment cells in your skin absorb the light energy, which is converted into heat that destroys the unwanted pigment to clear up freckles and other spots.

What is a common condition treated with an IPL Photofacial?

The most common conditions treated with an IPL Photofacial are pigment imperfections, such as brown/red spots, freckles, and melasma. But treatment has also been shown effective at treating sun damage, spider veins, and rosacea.

What is the recovery from an IPL Photofacial like?

Most people resume their normal activities as soon as treatment is complete. However, the skin will likely be red and sensitive for a few hours (like a sunburn). Sensitivity will likely continue for a couple of days, and sun exposure should be avoided for up to two weeks following treatment. Some patients experience some mild, temporary swelling after treatment, but this subsides quickly.

What is the expected outcome from an IPL Photofacial?

Results appear over time as the pigmented skin works its way to the surface and eventually falls off. Optimal results can usually be seen in about three months after the last treatment. Sun protection and a good skin care regime will be needed after your IPL Photofacial to maintain results. Treatments may need to be repeated periodically for ideal results.

What is the cost of an IPL Photofacial?

IPL Photofacials range from $300-400 per treatment, but you can purchase special treatment packages to save more.
