#WhatIsWednesday: Chemical Peels

In this week’s version of #WhatIsWednesday, we answer your questions about Chemical Peels.

Q. What is a chemical peel?

A.  A chemical peel is an aesthetics treatment in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to cause the top layer(s) to eventually peel off, revealing smoother, younger-looking skin beneath the surface.

Q. What is a common condition treated with a peel?

A. A chemical peel can treat wrinkles and fine lines caused by sun damage and natural aging. A peel can also help improve the appearance of scars, age spots, freckles, and melasma.

Q. What is the recovery from a chemical peel like?

A. Depending on the type of peel you receive, your skin is likely to appear red for a few days following the procedure then start to peel. The peeling typically ends in 3 to 7 days, leaving beautiful glowing skin. Sun exposure should be avoided until the skin has completely healed.

Q. What is the expected outcome?

A. The new skin revealed after a peel is smoother, brighter and more even toned. With a light or medium peel, you may need to have multiple treatments to get the desired results.
