Botox® Vs Xeomin® Vs Dysport®- How Do They Compare?

Arguably one of the most popular aesthetic brand names on the market, Botox® currently leads the market in revenue and is projected to almost double within just a few years.

Botox may be the most famous name in wrinkle treatment, but did you know that there are other options, like Xeomin® and Dysport®?

If you’re curious as to how the three brands compare, we hope to provide some clarity in this article.

Botox® vs Dysport® vs Xeomin®

Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport all perform a similar function. So what’s the difference between them?

Botox

Are you curious as to where wrinkles come from? The full answer is long and complex, but there’s a simple answer that you may find enlightening.

Muscles in your face contract, pulling themselves together and bringing your skin along for the ride. The result? Your skin gets pulled together until it’s bunched up: wrinkles!

Botox works by using a special neurotoxin. Now, the word “toxin” might concern you at first, but Botox has been tested and found to be a safe beauty treatment.

The neurotoxin in Botox gets between your brain and your nerves. By forming a wall, your brain becomes unable to force your nerves to contract your muscles. The result? Relaxed muscles.

With the precise placement of Botox, the only affected muscles are certain to select ones in your face: the ones that cause unwanted wrinkles!

Botox is most often injected to relax muscles in the forehead, around the eyes (“crow’s feet”), and around frown lines on the sides of your mouth. Once those muscles are relaxed, your skin can too, and thus, reducing wrinkles.

Pricing for Botox can vary patient to patient due to the severity of wrinkles and the patient’s wishes.

Treatments typically last 10-15 minutes and you may start to notice the treated area smoothing within 24-48 hours.

Unfortunately, Botox isn’t a permanent solution and the patient must maintain Botox injections.

Xeomin

Xeomin is designed to achieve the same beauty results as Botox, but with a simpler, more natural formula.

Xeomin is so simple that it has only one ingredient: botulinum toxin A! There’s that word “toxin” again, so, as you might have guessed, Xeomin also works by interfering with the nerves that force your muscles to tighten in unwanted ways.

But no worries, Xeomin has been just as tested for safety as Botox. Not only is Xeomin FDA approved, but it has also been found to be safe by a study which was cited in the Journal of the Neurological Sciences.

Besides slightly different side effects, the main difference between Botox and Xeomin we’ve talked about so far is that Xeomin has a simpler formula. There’s a certain appeal to simplicity that might make you lean towards Xeomin, but that’s up to each consumer to decide.

Other than that, Botox and Xeomin are very similar. Xeomin costs about the same per unit, and you need about the same number of units of Xeomin as you do of Botox. Additionally, Xeomin has shown to last 3 to 6 months.

One more minor difference is that Xeomin’s simpler formula does not need to be kept cool the way that Botox does because Xeomin lacks the complex proteins of Botox.

You might wonder why we even need to have two treatments when they are so similar. However, the different chemical makeups of Botox and Xeomin mean that if you have an immune reaction to one, you may not react to the other. Xeomin is a perfect alternative to try if Botox doesn’t work for you and vice versa!

Dysport

Dysport, on the other hand, can take effect as soon as within a single day! It’s similar to Botox in that it has multiple ingredients including special proteins.

However, Dysport uses different proteins. Dysport’s proteins are much heavier chemicals than those in the Botox formula.

Dysport has been found to spread throughout the face a little more than Botox. That means that you’re going to have trouble pinpointing the exact areas you want to target with your injections.

Dysport can be slightly more cost-effective than Botox and Xeomin.
